In which industries is fluororubber used?

Fluoroelastomer (FKM or FPM for short) is simply the "all powerful king" of the materials industry, with high temperature resistance, oil resistance, chemical resistance, ozone resistance, and aging resistance. These powerful abilities make it shine in the high-end industrial field. Here is an inventory of the "battlefield" where it showcased its skills:

1、 Automotive industry (accounting for 35% -40% of global fluororubber consumption)

If there is no fluororubber in the car, it would be really troublesome. It mainly serves as a "gatekeeper" in the power system and fuel system, helping key parts such as engine oil seals (crankshaft oil seals, camshaft oil seals), transmission oil seals, O-rings, gasoline pump seals, fuel injector seals, exhaust system flange gaskets, and turbocharger soft joints to "stand guard" and resist the "rotation attack" of high temperature, fuel, lubricants, and additives.

Temperature resistance: It can withstand high temperatures of 200 ℃ for a long time without closing, and can even withstand temperatures up to 250 ℃ in a short period of time!

Medium resistance: It can easily handle various liquids such as gasoline, diesel, biofuels, ATF oil, engine oil, coolant, etc.

2、 Petrochemical industry

In the petrochemical industry, various aromatic hydrocarbons, acids, alkalis and chlorinated solvents are "regular customers". Ordinary rubber has long been "overwhelmed", but fluororubber can be as stable as Mount Tai. It is used in sealing gaskets, flange seals, valve seals, pump shaft seals, pipeline linings, diaphragms, and corrugated pipes, and is simply a "little expert in corrosion resistance". It is more resistant to swelling and aging than general-purpose rubbers such as NBR and EPDM.

3、 Aerospace industry

The ancestor of fluororubber is the military aviation industry, and now it is even more popular in the aerospace field. It is essential for key components such as aircraft engine seals, hydraulic system seals, high-altitude instrument O-rings, fuel system hoses, and gaskets. It must be able to withstand aviation kerosene, high-altitude ozone, and withstand extreme temperatures ranging from -40 ℃ to 230 ℃ without losing its chain. Impressive!

4、 Electronics and Semiconductor Industry

In IC manufacturing LCD、OLED、 In high-tech industries such as photovoltaics and lithium batteries, environmental requirements are considered "stringent", and ultra clean, low pollution, and corrosion-resistant are all indispensable. Fluororubber is a "VIP" here, relying on it for vacuum sealing rings, diaphragms, valve seats, chemical gas delivery pipeline seals, and plasma etching equipment seals. Especially FFKM (perfluororubber), which is specifically used for sealing high-temperature plasma reaction chambers, is simply a "high-precision" material.

Special requirements: Extremely low metal impurities (Na ⁺, K ⁺, Cl ⁻, etc.), as well as resistance to corrosive gases such as HF acid and ClF3. This difficulty is not ordinary!

5、 Pharmaceutical and food industries (must use FDA certified FKM)

The requirements for materials in the pharmaceutical and food industries are extremely strict. Fluororubber, with its excellent chemical stability and resistance to cleaning agents, is used in sealing rings for pharmaceutical equipment, O-rings for high-pressure sterilization, sealing and cleaning agents for food liquid delivery systems, and sealing components for disinfectant environments.

Certification requirements: It must be FDA 21 CFR 177.2600 certified or USP Class VI FKM, otherwise it is not acceptable!

6、 New energy industry (batteries, hydrogen energy)

In the new energy industry, fluororubber is also a "big star". Key components such as the sealing ring of the power battery casing, the electrolyte anti-seepage rubber ring, the corrosion-resistant sealing ring (using low-permeability FKM) in the hydrogen storage and transportation system, and the high-pressure sealing element in the BOP system all rely on it.

Environmental resistance requirements: resistant to EC/DMC solvents, LiPF ₆, H ₂, high-pressure hydrolysis environment, etc., truly an "all-around warrior"!

7、 Other high-end uses

Printing roller coating layer: Good solvent resistance, wear resistance, making the printing quality "top-notch"!

Chemical gloves and protective clothing sealing rings: protect workers' safety and prevent chemical "sneak attacks".

High temperature cable sheath: It can also provide complete wire protection even in high temperature environments.

Gas sampling bag: Ensure that the sampled gas is "authentic" and not contaminated.
